Commissions on "Noxious Material"
Via Google Print, a colleague has found a couple of intriguing Congressional publications:
Hearings of the Commission on Noxious Printed and Pictured Material (1960)
Hearings To Create a Commission on Noxious and Obscene Matters and Materials (1965)
For unknown reasons, Google has made these publications available via "snippet view," which means we can read only a few sentences in each publication. This makes no sense, since anything created by the US government is automatically public domain (i.e., it has no copyright). Google could (and should) make these available in "full book view."
Anyway, not only are the publications themselves extremely rare, the two commissions are incredibly obscure. The first commission yields exactly one Google hit, and that's just a bibliography. The second yields 42 hits, but all of them are bibliographies or similar reference materials with skeletal information.
I'd be grateful if someone would send a photocopy of either or both publications.
